Overall :
The scope of work includes a complete Overhaul main-engine cylinder no. 1 and replacement of the piston crown. Additionally, the cylinder heads for cylinders no. 2, no. 4, and no. 5 will be removed for detailed inspection. This comprehensive maintenance process aims to restore full operational efficiency, ensuring all critical engine components are inspected, repaired, or replaced as required for optimal engine performance and longevity.
Overhaul main-engine procedure:
Inspection Before Working:
Before commencing any work, a thorough survey is conducted to assess the machine base. A detailed plan is then developed, and standard parameters are established to guide the operation. All related systems, including lubricating oil, fuel oil, starting air system, cooling water, and the turning gear machine, are carefully checked to ensure they are functioning properly. Finally, any specialized tools required for the task are obtained from the ship.
Dismantling and inspection cylinder cover:
First, all service system pipes and hydraulic nuts on the surface of the cylinder cover are disassembled. The position of all internal parts, such as gaskets and PC rings, is then checked, and any errors from previous repairs are identified. The burner chamber, including the top liner and cylinder head, is thoroughly cleaned. Afterward, the turning gear is engaged near the Bottom Dead Center (BDC) to inspect the condition of the piston ring and liner. Finally, the cylinder head is reassembled without the PC ring.
Renew piston crown of No.1 piston:
Begin by removing the old piston crown from the No. 1 piston. Clean the new piston crown thoroughly. Assemble the new piston skirt and secure it with the correct tightening force, using steel wire to ensure it is firmly in place. Connect the new piston crown with the piston rod. Perform a tightness test using pressurized air and soap water, and confirm the results with the Chief Engineer. Finally, conduct a running test of the main engine at all operational speeds, including dead slow, to recheck for leaks, abnormal noises, and to verify operational parameters with the Chief Engineer.
Testing after Overhaul main-engine:
After completing the repair work ( Overhaul main-engine ), a thorough testing phase is conducted to ensure everything is functioning correctly. The main engine is first tested at various operational modes, including dead slow speed, to evaluate its performance under different conditions. The engine is closely monitored for any signs of leaks or abnormal noises. Additionally, operational parameters are checked to ensure they meet the required specifications. The testing is carried out in collaboration with the Chief Engineer to verify that all repairs have been successful and that the engine operates smoothly and reliably. Any discrepancies or issues identified during testing are addressed promptly to ensure the engine is in optimal working condition.
