Crane Jib Bearing Replacement by Hai Ha M&S: A Challenging Yet Successful Task

Recently, we were tasked with replacing a crane jib bearing of International ship in Cam Pha- Viet Nam. It located 10 meters above the deck, which need to use of scaffolding and a winch to transport equipment to the necessary height. Our team meticulously welded supports and used a chain block to secure the position of the Jib crane.
The most challenging part of this process was removing the retaining pin.To start, we begin by removing the cap and grease knob from inside the crane tower, taking care to pay attention to the mark on the shaft. We then weld-on support for a hydraulic jack inside the crane tower, and weld eyes on the jib and outside the tower to secure the jib end by chain block, with a capacity of at least 5 tonnes.
Once everything is properly secured, we use a hydraulic jack to remove the shaft from inside the crane tower. This may require gas heating to properly loosen the shaft. Once the shaft is removed, we carefully remove the bearing housing from its space and replace the bearing and other necessary details according to the drawings.
Our team worked tirelessly from 4:00 PM until 10:30 PM to remove the retaining pin. The next morning, we resumed work at 5:00 AM and completed the task by 2:00 PM. With the new bearing and parts in place, we then assemble the jib end in the reverse sequence, taking care to ensure everything is properly secured and functioning before completing the job.
Despite the complexity of the task, our team was able to complete the crane jib bearing replacement by 8:00 PM, ensuring that the crane was fully operational and safe to use.
