The Ministry of Transport has recognized Nghi Son deep-water port system, located in Nghi Son Economic Zone in Tinh Gia, Thanh Hoa, as one of the top deep-water ports in the country with a fast growth rate. The port system is planned to have 50 berths, including general, specialized, and container ports, capable of receiving ships of up to 100,000 DWT, and has the ability to handle hundreds of millions of tons of cargo per year.
Currently, Nghi Son port has completed the construction and operation of three specialized ports, which are associated with three projects, namely Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, Nghi Son Cement Factory, and Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant. Additionally, there are eight general ports, including two ports of PTSC Thanh Hoa Company, three ports of Ocean Company, and three ports of Iron and Steel Company. The combined length of these ports is over 1,700 meters, and they can welcome ships with loads up to 70,000 DWT offload.
It is expected that the volume of goods passing through the port in 2018 will reach over 17 million tons.
