Hatch Cover Hydraulic Cylinder Overhaul

Hatch Cover Hydraulic Cylinder Overhaul is one of the basic repair work onboard, normally the overhaul job is done by ship crews, but due to the limitation of time and lack of special equipment the owner will order ashore workshop to carry out jobs.

Hai Ha M&S was requested from ship owner for the vessel SALERNO at Hongai anchorage for Hatch cover cylinder overhaul due to leak of hydraulic oil. After inspection the team of fully of equipment had onboard of vessel and start working .

Hatch Cover Hydraulic Cylinder Overhaul Work sequence:

Clean the inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder and its components thoroughly using a degreaser or solvent. Inspect the cylinder for any signs of damage or wear, such as cracks, dents, or scoring. If any damage is found, determine if it can be repaired or if the component needs to be replaced.

Remove the rod from the cylinder and inspect it for any signs of damage or wear, such as corrosion, scoring, or pitting. If the rod is damaged, determine if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.

Inspect the piston and piston seals for any signs of damage or wear, such as scoring, pitting, or leaks. If the piston or seals are damaged, determine if they can be repaired or if they need to be replaced.

Inspect the cylinder bore for any signs of damage or wear, such as scoring, pitting, or corrosion. If the bore is damaged, determine if it can be repaired or if the cylinder needs to be replaced.

Replace any damaged or worn components with new ones, and reassemble the cylinder using the appropriate tools and techniques. Ensure that all components are properly lubricated and torqued to the correct specifications.

Test the cylinder for proper operation and leaks using a hydraulic test bench or similar equipment. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs before reinstalling the cylinder.

After the necessary parts have been inspected, the next step is to replace any damaged or worn out parts with new ones. This process involves replacing the following parts:

Wiper seal
Rod seal and rod guide ring
Piston static seal and head static seal
Buffer seal
Piston seal and piston guide ring

Once all the necessary parts have been replaced, a final inspection and testing is carried out. This inspection is done under the supervision of a vessel representative to ensure that the work has been completed to their satisfaction. Any issues that are identified during this final inspection are addressed before the cylinder is put back into service.
